Celebrate America’s 250th with the ultimate American experience: a state fair.
Few festivities feel as American as a state fair. Mixing agriculture, entertainment, food, and competition, state fairs today still evoke an unmistakable community showcase that is everything, everywhere, all at once.
Deep-fried innovations usually grab headlines (breaking news: Texas State Fair has a fried charcuterie board), while veteran headliners like Busta Rhymes (headlining the Indiana State Fair this summer) share billing with bake-off competitions. Blending nostalgia and spectacle, these are the 10 best state fairs in the U.S., where tradition meets excess in the most distinctly American way.

No visit is complete without a Big E Cream Puff, the oversized pastry that has become a signature treat of the fair.
