Grand Canyon Seeks Help to Identify Man Who Damaged Hopi Headpiece
In a July 1 release, Grand Canyon National Park said its law enforcement rangers are seeking help from locals to identify a man in his 60s or 70s who visited the Desert View Watchtower on June 17 and, in a bid to take a picture, damaged a Hopi headpiece. He was standing on historic furniture, and when it buckled, he struck the headpiece, causing it to break in two places.
The man was with a woman, believed to be his daughter, and was assisted by staff who provided first aid. However, the duo left before law enforcement could arrive or identify them. “Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, recognizes the individuals described, or has information that could help identify them is asked to contact Grand Canyon National Park law enforcement (e-mail us). The NPS asks that anyone with information contact investigators directly and not post names or personal information in public comments or on social media platforms.”
