Durmitor National Park

WHERE: Montenegro

Despite being home to a dramatic coastline and charming villages, most people miss Durmitor National Park when they visit Montenegro. It’s located within the remote Dinaric Alps, but Žabljak—the gateway town for visiting Durmitor—lies a little over two hours from the tourism hotspot Kotor. Once inside the park, you’ll find Tara Canyon—the deepest river canyon in Europe, plunging up to 4,300 feet deep and stretching for around 51 miles. With a dramatic bridge arching high above the blue-green waters of the gorge, it’s really a picture-worthy location that offers white-water rafting, zip-lining, and hiking.
