Earlier this summer, through throngs of eager observers and exuberant New Yorkers ready to herald summer, one writer got a (literal) peek at this NYC visual wonder.

wice a year, New York City becomes the setting for a delightful display of the natural world that can only be witnessed in the midst of towering skyscrapers. During Manhattanhenge, the sun aligns with the city’s east-to-west street grid, which means the sun drops into the horizon in perfect alignment between the buildings, turning them into modern day reflective standing stones that herald the arrival of summer. Similar to most New York City activities, to see Manhattanhenge requires battling crowds, traffic, noise, and—most importantly—being in the right place at the right time.
